20,000 tonnes of wood saved in 2023/24 financial year

Between 01 April 2023 and 31 March 2024, the Community Wood Recycling network as a whole collected over 20,000 tonnes of wood waste, nearly 40% of which was reused, and the rest recycled. About 80% of the wood was collected from national commercial clients, with the rest collected from smaller companies and households.

We estimate that by collecting larger loads in smaller vans than skip lorries, providing a reused alternative to virgin timber, and diverting wood from landfill, our activities prevented the release of greenhouse gasses equivalent to 10,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide.

Collecting, processing and reselling this wood provided work for around 240 people and training opportunities for over 600, many of whom have faced challenges to employment such as addiction or disability.

If you are a national client of Community Wood Recycling, you can request a Social and Environmental Impact report from us totalling the wood collected and reused and estimating how much your contribution counted towards these outcomes. If you’d like a report or have any questions, please email us at info@communitywoodrecycling.org.uk.
