Chippenham Town Council Runs Free Wildflower Stall

Chippenham Town Council ran a free wildflower stall in partnership with local groups including Wiltshire Wood Recycling, as part of their Community Environmental Forum, distributing over 300 perennial plants to local residents to plant in their own gardens. The most in-demand plants included Meadow’s Cranesbill and Field Scabious, which have beautiful purple flowers that bloom all summer long, as well as creating food and habitat for bees, butterflies and other insects. These insects in turn provide food sources for birds, bats and small mammals like hedgehogs.

The plants were grown by the local community groups Baydons Meadow, Rooted Chippenham, Wilts & Berks Canal Trust, Chippenham Collective, Nature Matters, the Tiny Forest and Sheldon Road Methodist Church.

Wiltshire Wood Recycling and the Chippenham Men’s Shed provided wooden Blue Hearts so that people growing these plants can show to passersby that they’re are making space for nature in their gardens.

Thanks to Chippenham Town Council, the community groups and the members of the public who got involved for making this great initiative a success, and we hope to see lots of blue hearts in gardens around Chippenham!
