Glasgow’s Garden of Eden

Glasgow Wood have been working with SWG3, an independent venue in Scotland, to create an urban paradise. Formerly a galvanizers’ yard and a clutch of warehouses servicing the Clyde, SWG3’s post-industrial site is a collection of spaces alive with art, design, music, fashion, food, shopping and nightlife, and the space outside has not been ignored.

In consultation with neighbours, resident artists, staff and the wider local community, 3,200m² of wasteland behind the main building has been redesigned into a thriving green space. After being registered as derelict by Glasgow City Council for over a decade, the land has been completely remodelled into a shared space for the community to grow, plant, play and create.

As their website says:

The garden is a green oasis in the heart of the city. It’s a space where everybody from local residents to tourists and bands with their touring parties can socialise, relax and connect with nature.

Glasgow Wood have played a key part of the project. Managing Director Cameron Brown explains:

“With 4 of our XL picnic benches, 13 raised beds plus one accessible raised bed in and amongst a diverse array of trees, grasses, shrubs and perennials, the garden is truly a space for everyone in the community.”

The garden will be open from 10am till 5pm every Saturday, Sunday, and Monday until November, when it will close for winter.
