Maciek’s Moravian workbench

We often come across eye-catching projects made by our customers, and today we’re sharing something special. Talented woodworker Maciek has made this incredible Moravian workbench entirely from reclaimed materials. Maciek sourced the timber from his local wood recyclers, Move On in Edinburgh, and the tail vice is made out of an old car jack.

But what is a Moravian workbench? The design can be traced to Old Salem, a historic Moravian village founded in north-west North Carolina in 1766 which is now home to a living history museum.  What makes the bench special is that it can easily be taken to pieces and reassembled, making it suitable for indoor and outdoor use and for transporting.  This flexibility was useful in the eighteenth century, and it’s still a bonus today!
