Reclaimed timber supporting rehabilitation at HMP Maidstone
Did you know that we are able to donate some of the wood we collect from our clients directly to other projects making an difference in the local community? Our Rochester-based wood recyclers, Roots Timber Reuse, have recently received a letter of thanks from HMP Maidstone for the impact their timber has made via the prison’s workshop programme.
For the past three years, donations from Roots have helped create a space where people in custody can learn practical skills, work on real projects and take part in purposeful activity. Giving people the chance to develop their abilities, build confidence and focus on something positive plays an important part in rehabilitation and supports a better transition back into the community – and this means less re-offending and better lives for everyone in the area. The prison workshop also produces items for local charities and community groups, so the impact of every piece of reclaimed timber goes even further.
We are proud of the Roots Timber Reuse team for making sure good-quality wood is put to meaningful reuse, and of course we are very grateful to our customers whose commitment to responsible waste wood collections makes this kind of community benefit possible.
